Author: Keith J. Valentine

Source: articledashboard.com

How will I find my dream job on a cruise ship? Who will hire me? What do I need to know? Where will I get tips for getting hired? You will find the answers to these and other questions about working on a cruise ship if you read the following excerpts from Mary Fallon Miller's book 'How to Get a Job with a Cruise Line'. You'll get to know how much they will pay you, what you'll be doing and how long you will be doing it. Imagine what it takes to operate a floating resort - a virtual city. That is what a cruise ship is. It employs experienced workers in over three hundred kinds of jobs to run this kind an enterprise. Here are some good tips for getting hired! Those people that are seasoned in the entertainment industry will be considered first - and then if you are proficient in such occupations as hospitality, tourism, restaurants and bars, teaching, childcare, sales, customer relations, gaming, marketing, fitness, health and beauty, medicine and healthcare, administration, banking, accounting and financial management, your skills will also be in demand. Cruise lines hire dependable, competent people with outgoing, positive attitudes, students, career-changers, retirees - "people" people, who enjoy working with others. Your number one priority as a cruise line employee is to provide a safe, fun and memorable vacation experience. To get hired on a cruise ship you need to: Know the players - Royal Caribbean International, Princess and Carnival are known as the 'Big Three', with the largest fleets in the industry. These employers should be at the top of your list. Choose jobs that interest you - Practice public speaking whenever possible, study a foreign language or get your CPR or Lifesaving Certification. Sell yourself - Apply early and often - but don't pester the Personnel Office by phone. Send follow up letters and resume updates. Great tips for getting hired! The cruise industry hires year-round and seasonally. Most employees work for a period of six to nine months with one to two months off. Many departments add staff for holiday cruises, and peak sailings through winter and spring. Doctors and nurses can find year round employment or assignments as brief as two to three months. Peak hiring times for youth counselors? Holidays and summer - perfect for students or teachers who love to travel. List your specific dates of availability (e.g. from May 15 to Sept. 1) so the Personnel Office knows how to schedule you. The pay compares to good jobs ashore - plus you save a lot of money because most expenses are left behind. On board ship your room and meals are included. No more rent, grocery, electric, or gas bills! You can bank your salary and tips, or blow it all in ports of call. Sample current pay ranges: Casino Manager: $2,000-3,000 per month (revenue sharing.) Gift Shop Retail Sales: $1,000-1,500 per month (commission included.) Hairstylist / Beautician: $1,000-1,300 per month (tips included.) Shore Excursion Manager: $1,800 - $3,000 per month, plus commission. If you really are interested in learning how to get a cruise ship job, you'll need to know what you want to work at, find out who's hiring, determine how to get hired, establish whether it is year-round or seasonal employment you'll be involved with and how much they will pay you. Make a plan and stick to it!

Keep your prescriptions only in labeled containers to avoid any misunderstanding of drug trafficking.Be ConfidentBe confident when you land in a foreign territory. Look, act and move as if you well versed in the ways. Be confident in doing everything from shopping to asking directions. This will help you stay away from any potential risk. Hotel SafetyBe smart and alert while choosing your stays and hotels. Inquire about the hotel safety and check for an easy and reliable transportation. It would be great if you choose a hotel near by most of the places you plan to visit. Once you enter your room, check whether all doors and windows have working locks. Don't open the door without peeking out of the keyhole. Clothing - Wear DecentAnd finally the most important tip or precaution you MUST take. Dressing up conservatively and inconspicuously will help you to a great extent in a foreign territory. Just wear what looks attractive yet goes with the local culture. Local women can be of great help to you in this concern. Don't wear any clothes that could spark harassment. Remember, your trip's success and pleasure is all in your hand. Cheap Flight Tips to Brazil

Author: Jimbo Thomas

Source: ezinearticles.com

If you are planning on cheap flights to Brazil, one of the things you need to realize is that flying to this country is not as cheap as some other destinations, this is because of the country's rising popularity. There are however some things you can do to help secure your cheap flight to Brazil. If you're flying from the US, there are many direct flights you can take from different departures for example Miami or Atlanta. Miami is usually the cheapest airport to fly from attributed to the fact that there are so many Brazilian immigrants living within the Miami area. In fact a little tip here is to search online for travel agencies in the State of Florida (most are in Miami anyway) as they often have good deals on flying to Brazil. For Canadians however it's a little bit more difficult because Canadians can only fly directly from Toronto. A cheap flying tip here is to investigate the possibility to fly to an American city that has a Brazil connection. For Europeans it is much easier to find cheap flights to Brazil, as there are many cities to fly out of , on often direct flights. Further, for European travelers, Lisbon is the best choice because there are more flights to Brazil from the Portuguese capital than anywhere else, and it is often cheaper flying from another European City to Lisbon for a connecting flight to Brazil. One thing that shouldn't be overlooked is the charter flight option to Brazil as these offer some really cheap flights to Brazil that should be taken advantage of. A tip here is to consider flying to to cities other than Rio or Sao Paulo. If you really do some research you're going to find there are many variations of cheap flights to Brazil and the secret is alwaysto do your research and not just settle for the first deal that comes your way. If possible, try to keep yourself flexible as to time and once again going in the off seasons means you're going to find that you are going to get substantial savings. And my final tip for a cheap flight to Brazil is to consider flying to the 2 main cities of Rio or Sao Paulo and booking your own domestic flight at the airport. It is much cheaper than booking Brazil domestic flights online. For instance if you wanted to fly from Miami to Recife but find the flight cost expensive. Consider flying from Miami to Rio then booking an in-country connection to Recife.Even when the economy is in downturn you can still get great cheap flights to Brazil. The airlines want to encourage people to use their services and they will do so with incentives.

And finally there is a must see fly cheap guide written by a former airline industry source . Moreover, he outlines in detail what to do to ensure you never pay full airfare rate ever again. This guide blows the lid off Flying Cheap.

Cruise Travel Tips

Cruise is now one of the hottest vacations around. Why? Because cruising is one of a great vacation values available. You pay for your cabin and all the food you can eat for 3, 4 7, days or longer, of luxurious pampering before you leave on your cruise. That alone should put your mind at ease. Think about it. Not only don't you have to worry about keeping enough money for lunch or dinner on your fourth or fifth day of the vacation, but you don't have to worry about trying to find a place to dine. There are a several choices for dining when you are cruising. On most of the large ships there are a multitude of restaurants to choose from. You can go casual, formal or just have pizza or hot dogs. And don't forget that there is always room service - 24 hours a day. Picture having your breakfast brought to your room, sitting on your balcony, and dining alfresco while you arrive in a new port. This is quite an exciting way to start your day no matter where you are arriving. Some people shy away from using this great vacation outlet because they are afraid they will get bored or feel confined while they are having a day at sea. Nothing could be farther from the truth. There are activities all day, every day that cater to everyone's interest. And the best part of that is, if you want to play bridge and your spouse wants to do aerobics, your both free to do what ever you like and meet up later for a margarita or rum punch at the pool. Now all of the ships have children's programs so that the kids can go off with other children in their age group, (with youth counselors), and you don't have to worry about them or if they are having fun. These aspects afford everyone a good time without anyone feeling guilty.Another bonus to cruising is that you get to visit multiple destinations. If you cruise the Caribbean you will go to several islands, depending on the length of the cruise. At night while you are sleeping peacefully in your bed, the captain and crew are taking you to a new exotic location for you to explore the next day.If you cruise in Europe (after you have flown to the port of embarkation) you will find yourself in whole new countries from one day to the next. For example, if you cruise the Baltic, you will be visiting Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Russia and either Croatia or Estonia. If you choose to cruise Asia, some ports you will visit are Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and China.Alot of nice food and beautiful sights awaits you.www.cruise-travel-advice.blogspot.com

It's Okay to Sail the Cheap Cruise

Author: Christopher Luck

Source: articleage.com

One of the most popular tourist destinations these days can only be labeled as no place at all. People are lining up at docks all over the world to spend their vacation on a cruise ship. The features of the ship itself are, seemingly, far more important to most travelers then the places the boat actually docks. Depending on a lot of variables these cruises can be pretty expensive, but they don't have to be. Play your cards right and you can get on a really cheap cruise and end up with a lot of vacation money left over for other things. The best thing about a cruise ship vacation is that you get something completely different. While a lot of vacations turn into nothing but shopping in a different country, cruise lines offer something unique. Travelers get to be trapped in a fun filled environment they'll never want to leave. It's true. If you get on a ship that offers the activities you enjoy or would like to try, you end up in a very social environment that offers you a chance to lay back and relax or spend your day playing games, watching shows and hanging out with energetic crowds. For the inexperienced vacationer this all sounds expensive. The happy fact is that an average cruise can cost the same or less then equal time in a hotel. The better news is that a cheap cruise is by no means a bad cruise. Really, offers of cheap cruises are most often just better prices on the exact same trip everyone else spent a fortune on.Getting the good deals isn't at all hard. It does, however, require a less then picky taste. Also, like any other vacation, it leaves you traveling in the off season. The first thing you can do to get a cheap cruise vacation is worry less about where the ship goes. If, for instance, you like the events, layout, and activities offered by a certain cruise line and you aren't picky about which destination you wind up on, then you can get away with not planning ahead. Much like people who get cheap airfare by buying last minute tickets, you can get deals on a cruise the same way. Like any other transportation these cruises want to be full. When the ship is scheduled to leave no matter what, then selling a cheap ticket is better then selling no ticket at all. Further, the enjoyment of their guests depends on a populated boat. This is the same reason why traveling in non-peak seasons can get you cheap cruise tickets. It also comes down to simple supply and demand. A holiday season brings with it millions of people fighting for tickets to any given place. In turn, the price goes up because it can. Going on vacation at a time when most other people are staying home can mean the difference between a five hundred dollar cruise and a fifteen hundred dollar cruise. If all this fails and you find that a cheap cruise still isn't cheap enough then there's still one other way to get on the boat. These guys are always hiring.Christopher M. Luck has an extensive background in working exclusively with cheap cruises and is now offering his free cheap cruise advice to the public. If you are at all interested in Christopher's personal cruise advice, tips, or secrets, you can visit his cruise blog

Air Travel: Finding Cheap Airfare

Author: George Wood

Source: articledashboard.com

What could be more exciting for anyone out there than finding affordable and highly discounted airfare for a vacation abroad? All of us need a break every now and again from our hectic routine and day-to-day activities. We all plan a vacation but cancel our plans the moment we find out about the cost of it. But do keep one thing in mind: it doesn't matter which industry you belong to, you don't need to be a millionaire to enjoy a trip abroad with your family at least once a year. There are always great opportunities for people out there that are less fortunate to spare some extra cash for a vacation. Well, let's find out how your dream holiday can be made a reality!

Yes, you guessed right. Finding cheap airfare is how we are going to realize our dream of planning a wonderful vacation this year with our family. It's not that difficult. Once you know the tips and tricks of how airline people handle their ticket prices you will be able to save a lot of money on airfare which previously you thought impossible. Here are some tips that will come handy once you start your quest. First of all, try to get in contact with consolidators or wholesalers in your area. If you don't want to go out, then finding online consolidators is also possible and is fairly easy and simple. Just log on to the Internet and enter 'online consolidators' on any search engine. You will find a lot of websites that offer cheap airfare or give out information on inexpensive airlines.

You can even enter your search criteria, for example destination and the expected time of flight. This way you can narrow down your search and get more focused results. There are some websites that list destination locations and offer special discount packages on them. They keep updating these lists, so don't be disappointed if your location is not on the list. There are other special packages as well, like last-minute reservations. Most of the time last-minute reservations are the cheapest of all because at that time airlines try to sell out all their tickets to passengers. The time at which you buy the ticket is also very important. It is advisable that you purchase your ticket in the wee hours of morning because at that time airlines are clearing out their previous day's data and want to sell out as many tickets as possible.

Air courier is a way of traveling at a very low price. Sometimes air courier services even allow you to travel for free. But of course there are some drawbacks to it. First of all, as a courier you won't be able to travel with a family. Secondly you will require a lot of time to suit the company's appointed schedule. Sometimes they would require you to stay a week and sometimes even a month's time in some remote location. So if you have business to attend to at home and a family to look after, you can't travel frequently as a courier. There will be better opportunities handed over by the courier company, so if you like this chance of traveling at a very low cost then do consider enrolling yourself in a courier program.

These are only a few of many possible opportunities of finding cheap airfare. Once you start your search and get in touch with people already in this business, you are going to learn a lot. Just keep your options open and before purchasing an inexpensive ticket dig for a little more information and see if it's really worth it. Sometimes they advertise a lot on the Internet for cheap airfare but in reality you can't get much out of it. It is advisable that you book seats at 2 or 3 airlines and see how things turn out to be. Best of luck!

Disney's Animal Kingdom - Review of Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain

Author: Jim Ranieri

Source: ezinearticles.com

Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain. This may be the greatest title of a ride Disney has ever imagineered. The elaborately themed roller coaster at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida, opened April 7, 2006 (has it really been that long!).

While the ride has occasionally been compared to Disneyland's Matterhorn Bobsleds, the comparison is quite off. Yes, a quick glance at the ride does bring memories of Anaheim's famous attraction, but in reality the two rides have less in common than Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.

For starters, Everest features a traditional coaster train with a capacity of 34 individuals. The Matterhorn has only two cars seating up to eight individuals. In addition, Everest trains travel both forward and backward! The speed of Everest also nearly doubles that of the Matterhorn. Both rides do feature "monsters" - the Yeti of Everest and the Abominable Snowman (which also is a Yeti). However, Disney claims the Everest Yeti is one of the largest and most complex figures it has ever built and experience shows it is extremely lifelike. It was based on extensive research into the legend of the Yeti famous in Himalayan cultures of Nepal and Tibet.

Everest is a true thrill ride. I would say that adventurous children ages 7 and up would love the ride. If your children are easily scared then you may want to wait until 8 or 9 years of age. However, while it is fast it is not really scary. It is quite fun. In fact it won the 2006 Theme Park Insider Award for "World's Best New Theme Park Attraction" which was a well-deserved award. The height of the ride reaches 112 feet. This does not sound like much but is roughly the size of an 11 story building (it seems higher when you are looking out from the peak!). The maximum speed is 50 miles per hour (80 kph). As comparison Space Mountain only reaches 28 mph. The ride is fairly long, nearly 4 minutes.

Unfortunately I cannot comment on the queue of the ride as I've only ridden with Fast Pass.

Tip: If you are interested in seeing how the coaster manages to head in a different direction once it reverses from forward to backward motion, bring a camcorder with night vision capability and try to sit in either the first row or last row. If you are in the first row, when you are stopped in the dark tunnel to engage your night vision and watch the track change. If you are in the last row, you will need to turn around in your seat 180 degrees when stopped at the very top of the mountain and film the track change behind you.

Tourism is a burgeoning industry in China making it not only a prime business destination but a must see travel stop. To ensure that you enjoy your trip, Chinese Translation Pro has compiled these handy travel tips as well as useful bits of information to take with you.

When to Go: If you looking for the lowest price on travel, plan your trip during the Low Season; December, January and February. The Peak Travel Season pertains to May, September and October. March, April, June, July, August and November are perhaps the best travel months with respect to price, weather and entertainment.

Getting There: The national airline is Air China. As is true of any flight, travelers should confirm their return flight reservations; airline overbooking has led to people being stranded in China. Also, be prepared for a lengthy flight. A nonstop from New York to Beijing lasts 14 hours while a charter to Shanghai lasts upwards of 18 hours.

There are four airport hubs within China; Beijing/Peking (BJS/PEK), Guangzhou Baiyun International, Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) and Shanghai Pudong (PVG). Each airport includes taxis, public and shuttle buses, duty free shops, banks/currency conversions, post offices, business and internet facilities and bars and restaurants. Important to note is the departure tax, which is paid in Chinese currency only. Children under 12 and transit passengers, proceeding within 24 hours of travel, are exempt.

Once There: Once in China, there are several transportation options via rail, sea and automobile. Railways provide the principal means of transportation throughout China. The trains are affordable, safe and well maintained operating between major cities; services include Beijing to Guangzhou, Shanghai, Harbin, Chengdu and Urumqi. There are three types of trains, the Express option being the best of the three. There are four varieties of fare: hard seat, soft seat (only on short-distance trains such as the Hong Kong to Guangzhou (Canton) line), hard sleeper and soft sleeper. Children under 3 ft tall travel free and those under 4ft pay a quarter of the fare. Train travel is often a comfortable experience albeit, a time consuming one, due to the distance between destinations. Domestic plane travel is a time saving alternative. Flights from Shanghei to Beijing, Hong Kong to Shanghei and Guangzhou to Shanghei are approximately 2 hours; however, the roundtrip travel costs average $350 USD. Though express train travel between these cities ranges from 12 to 18 hours, the prices are decidedly more affordable, between $15 to $30 USD.

Visa- Don't Leave Home Without It: Visas for leisure travel to China are easy to obtain, granting a one month's stay. The Chinese embassy or consulate, your travel agent or an independent visa service will gladly assist you. In the United States, contact the Chinese Embassy in Washington DC or the Consulates in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston or New York. US citizens can stay in Hong Kong without a visa for up to 30 days.

Tips on Tipping: Tipping is widely accepted and encouraged by tour guides, hotel staff and car services. In restaurants, if the tip has not already been figured into the bill, a 10 to 15 percent tip is advisable.

Good Eats: A meal in China need not include won ton or dim sum to be considered delicious and authentic. China offers a vast array of dining options including Muslim, Korean, American and traditional Chinese. Americans should leave their preconceptions of Chinese food at the customs gate!

Making Notes Makes All the Difference: Getting around in any foreign country can be intimidating, especially if there is a definite language barrier to complicate communication. To alleviate future frustration we have come up with some common questions and phrases for you to print out and take with you.

For parents who have teeners, it is best to plan an adventure vacation for them instead of treating them in kiddie places or giving them material things that they don’t really need. Planning an adventure vacation for teens can be worthwhile family activity because it ensures bonding time with the growing kids. If you are thinking of an adventure vacation for this age group, keep in mind what they will enjoy the most. Teeners nowadays are more into thrilling activities to keep them away from being bored. So, make sure that you include activities that will keep the physically active such extreme sports and others. Some of the activities that can be included in the adventure vacation may include outdoors activities such as mountain climbing, trekking, and biking. If your kids love the waters, bring them to a destination that has beaches where they can do so many water-related activities such as diving, wakeboarding, snorkeling and others. You might also want them to try more daring activities such kite boarding and kayaking. For those teens that are into the educational yet fun side, opt for activities that include exploration such as visiting ancient ruins and even finding a dinosaur fossil. You can also treat them to an ultimate nature trip by bringing then to places with huge forests, rich fauna, and interesting wildlife. Tips for parents Aside from giving the teens a break from their studies or whatever that they are busy with, an adventure vacation is sure to make the bond of the family members tighter and stronger. This is because the family member will have the chance to spend as much time with each other during the trip. But, before finally deciding to bring teens to a specific vacation destination, make sure that you consider the tips below. 1. Get their opinion. Unlike kids, teens are harder to convince in so many things. This is because they feel that they are old enough to take care and decide for themselves. To avoid conflicts and causes of arguments, make sure that you ask the teeners first about your plan. If you do this, they can suggest places where they want to go. Take note of the places or destinations that they have mentioned and conduct as simple research. List down the top three possible options and let them decide on it. 2. Never force them to go to a place that they don’t like. Parents should realize that teeners are starting to crave for independence. If they continue to command their kids and force them to do the things that they don’t really like, chances are, the trip would not be successful at all because nobody from them will cooperate. 3. Always be prepared. Wherever you go for an adventure vacation, make sure that you are well prepared. Some of the things that you should plan ahead is the time and length of your stay in a specific place, how to get there, the available accommodation and places where you can stay, the availability of basic travel necessities, the food available in case the teeners don’t like the local food, the activities that you can do, the places that you should not miss to visit, and of course, your budget. Once you have taken consideration to all of those things that are mentioned, you can now start making your itinerary and include the purpose of your travel. You can even start packing for your adventure vacation once these things are settled. http://adventure-sailing.blogspot.com
